These last few years, I've spent many hours swimming in an outdoor pool, observing other swimmers, looking at the sunlight beaming into the pool, and noticing the underwater perspective of the inside of the pool. I spent hours doing laps thinking random thoughts, represented by the small tunnel like pieces coming off the page. I'm fascinated by the juxtaposition of the movement on top of the waters surface versus the quiet spaces underneath the water. The viewer's perspective changes in each painting from looking above and below the swimmers, to looking across the pool from a swimmer's perspective. All of these varying perspectives allow the viewer to experience each point of view at the same time.
